Walking Directions to San Francisco (and back)

ink on paper | 2010-present

With the technology of today it seems physical travel is being replaced; we no longer need to move from our computer chairs to have an immediate travel experience. Potentially one can simply log onto Google Maps and explore new territory in the non-tangible realm. Within the plethora of knowledge some of it becomes irrelevant or useless (such as walking directions from Vancouver to San Francisco, as programmed by Google Maps- which takes 12days and 2hrs without stopping).

‘Walking Directions’ explores Vancouver’s location and our relationship to it, physically, as well as through the online sphere. It is a gesture, which has potential for the possible journey but also a sense of futility in that the actuality and success of such a journey would be very low.
